Terms & Definitions
Below you will find a detailed description of terms and definitions.
1.0 General Terms
1.1 Wind Window
Is the area within the roughly semicircular plane described by the greatest height a kite can reach at every angle in front of a stationary flier. The size of the window is limited by the ground, the length of the flying line, the speed of the wind, the skill of the flier, and the flight characteristics of the kite or kites.
1.2 Center Window
The center of the wind window is directly down wind from the flier (horizontal center) and half way to the top of the wind window at that location (vertical center).
1.3 Precision Grid
The backdrop for each MiniRoutine part is a grid that is used as a reference for its correct size, shape, and location. The figures are drawn on a grid 100 units high and 200 units wide; 100 units on either side of the horizontal center of the window. The actual size of a grid unit varies with the length of the flying line used. With 38 meter (125 foot) lines, a grid unit is about 0.3 meters (1 foot).
2.0 Specific Terms
2.1 Match
A match is divided into two performances; a MiniRoutine and a TrickFlight (four tricks selected from the Trick Pool). First all competitors fly the MiniRoutine, then they fly the TrickSection.
2.2 MiniRoutine
A MiniRoutine is the first performance in a match and it is a pre-defined pattern of flight figures and 'moves'. A MiniRoutine is divided into six parts.
2.3 Part
A part is a part of the MiniRoutine. A MiniRoutine is built up by six parts.
2.4 Key Element
Whithin each part you will find three specific key elements the competitor must accomplish in his/her performance.
2.5 TrickSection The TrickSection is the second performance of a match, and in the TrickSection, the competitor flies the mandatory trick and the three tricks he/she has selected from the TrickPool. (A total of four tricks.) Each trick can be performed three times.
2.6 Trick Pool
In the Trick Pool you will find a survey of all the tricks you can choose from, for your four tricks in the TrickSection. You will also find the six tricks of which one will be chosen for the mandatory trick.
2.7 Trick Group
Each Trick Group is given a level of difficulty which also implies a factor of difficulty. This factor is used to calculate the score.
